Frenco was founded by William “Bill” Frost in the early 1940s as Perfection Engineering, operating out of a small factory in Birmingham. The company’s early success soon required a move to a larger, purpose-built facility in Coleshill. Notably, it became the first factory on Station Road Industrial Estate, with Bill encouraging other businesses to join the area.
The foundation of Frenco was built on strong engineering practices, continuous improvement, manufacturing innovation, and a commitment to raising quality standards. By the 1960s, Bill’s son Robert had joined the company after completing a student
apprenticeship with the future manufacturer of Jaguars and Land Rovers.
Robert introduced new ideas, including a range of gear measuring machines that helped expand Frenco into the global market, eventually leading to the creation of Frenco International.
Between 1970 and 2004, Frenco International underwent significant changes, including new ownership, the development of advanced S.P.C measurements, and an expanded product range that included gear forms, master gears, and helical gears. In 2015, after the retirement of John Stearn, then-owner of the business, Frenco was acquired by Mr. Wincel of Western Pegasus.
Today, more than 80 years after Bill Frost’s initial venture, Frenco is thriving under new management. The company has benefited from substantial investments in both machinery and personnel, a reorganization of key roles, and the promotion of a diverse and dynamic workforce. With the support of Western Pegasus, Frenco is well-positioned to reclaim its status as a market leader, providing innovative solutions in manufacturing, gear and spline production, and laboratory services to a new generation of global clients.
